Steampunk Jewelry - Amber Ily's Steamcrafts

For those of you don't know, I make Steampunk Jewelry on Etsy. I haven't posted them on here yet so I'd thought I'd dedicate a post to showing everyone my jewelry. I love making jewelry. It helps me take my mind of things. The couple that I have posted here are a part of my spring collection. They have a bit more of a shabby chic look to them. Anyway, if you get a chance check out my shop. It's a lot of fun.

Steampunk

That's right I absolutely love Steampunk. If you haven't already figured this out, you should know by now I'm a total geek. This includes my love for all things Steampunk. I even make Steampunk Jewelry. I am actually wearing one of my pieces. Sadly this one is not for sale on etsy. One of the only ones I refuse to sell. I decided I should make one for myself.

For those of you who don't know what Steampunk is, it is a subculture/genre of science fiction that  that typically features steam powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by Industrial civilization during the 19th century. Think of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, or Wild, Wild West.

There is something that I love so much about Steampunk. Maybe it's because I wish I was born in a different time period and an alternative one. Maybe it also stems from my long love of every thing Victorian. Which is something I love to adapt into Steampunk. I love taking Victorian styles and trends and adding Steampunk to them. Last year at the Gaslight Gathering I did my own version of Alice in Wonderland. Of course that will be for a different post.

Writing all day makes me go a little nuts

Okay, so if you don't know by now I'm a little crazy to begin with and if you asked my boyfriend he'd look at me sarcastically and say, "What do you mean by just a little?" However, I've been working on a young adult book for about two months now and haven't gotten as far as I would like. I'm tend to be a poetry writer however, when I was in college I specialized in fiction to put myself out there in a genre I wasn't used to. For the past year that I've been out of school I haven't really written much, not even poetry. My poetry tends to be dark and personal so revisiting it to edit and submit tends to bring up emotions I don't like to deal with. Those emotions usually tend to make me go crazy and crawl into a hole that people have to dig me out of. However, I would like to eventually take some of those poems and create a sort of poetry memoir or something a long those lines but now is not the time. Thus, is how this book is being born out of frustration and old ideas that I came up with and I always wanted to use. I'm excited though finding it frustrating that I don't have all the time in the world to write. I know this post has nothing to do with fashion but I figured you'd get a bit more of a sense of who I am besides clothes and fashion. In the end, I'm really just an artist trying to express myself in every way possible sometimes that is the only way to keep the "crazy" away.

What I Wear to Disneyland

Disneyland is always my favorite place to go when my spirits are down and I need a day off. I've had a Disneyland season pass since my junior year in high school so almost ten years. I never gets old for me. I try to go once a month but both Daniel and I have been really busy lately and we haven't gone since December. Daniel and I went on a Saturday, which his least favorite day, but when he works Monday through Friday and I work usually almost every weekend I take whatever we can get. I don't really mind the busyness I have a handicap pass due to my really bad knee problem so I really don't have to wait in line most of the time.
This is a usual Disneyland outfit. Something that has to do with Disney or Star Wars and usually a skirt (cause weirdly that's what I feel comfortable in) and my really ugly sketchers shape ups because I have a bad knee and it's the only thing that feels comfortable walking around all day in. Oh and I have my glasses on, cause I'm blind without them. Somewhere, in my mess of curls is a cute black bow that is keeping my curls out of my face. Also, if you can't see I haven't dyed my hair since December and it looks horrible, I'm going grey even though I'm only 24.

The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride of all time. I go on the ride at least four times when we go to Disneyland. The hall where all the ghosts are gathering and dancing is my favorite part. I want to live there.

Daniel and I don't usually spend too much time at California Adventure. Most of the time we go to Tower of Terror and then head back over to Disneyland. However, there are some other new rides that have become a must for me and that is The Little Mermaid, I mean come on, it's the ride! Most of the time there really isn't a line so I love that because you cannot use a wheelchair pass for California Adventure. Also, I love Monsters Inc. and the Ferris Wheel (but only if you go on the swinging side). I haven't been able to go on any of the new Cars rides. Most of the lines are really long still while I would wait my significant other is a little too impatient.

March Madness

It's March, and Spring is in the air. Green is my favorite color and March is best time for it. St. Patty's day is right around the corner and green grass and flowers have spread around the hills. This outfit is fun, like March. The skirt is a high low style (that's right business in the front and party in the back). I have a peacock necklace on with my blue and green pashmina scaf. I sip on my Mad Hatter cup and it's like my own March Madness party.
